Spring 2015, EDEL 350/ Immersive Learning
Reflection:
A teacher considers content knowledge and pedagogical knowledge when planning lessons. He or she understands how to meet learning goals through using community resources, cross-disciplinary skills, and knowledge of the required information. A teacher understands that each student requires individualized support.
In my practicum experience, I used InTASC Standard 7 every time I planned a lesson. In order for my students to get the most from my teaching, I had to rely on my knowledge of the content areas and my knowledge of how to teach. Also, I was beneficial enough to have peers that I could rely on for advice on my lessons. I also demonstrated InTASC Standard 7 when I went on a field trip and toured the community that my school was located in. By seeing the resources available to my students, I started to formulate ideas on how to teach them best.
In the future, I know that I will be responsible for keeping my pedagogical and academic knowledge up to date. By knowing what my community has to offer and talking with fellow teachers, I will be more likely to create lessons that my students will benefit from. All of these steps will give me more time to provide an inclusive classroom setting for my students.
