Spring 2015, EDEL 350/ Immersive Learning
Reflection:
A teacher understands that every student is an individual. He or she understands that children come from diverse cultures and deserve an equal opportunity to succeed. By providing an inclusive learning environment, teachers can enable all students to get the most out of their education.
Within my classroom experience, I used InTASC Standard 2 every day. Because all of my students came from different home lives, I had to adapt my teaching methods to meet their needs. For example, when providing my students with examples, I had to make sure the examples were relatable to their lives. Coming from a rural community, I had to research the school’s demographics in order to understand my students and to become the best teacher for them.
In the future, my classroom will be based on inclusion. I believe that it is the teacher’s responsibility to make school accessible to all children. Because education is the key to success, I will take the time to know my students’ backgrounds in order to help them grow as students and citizens.
